The difference between xylem and phloem, found in vascular bundles throughout a plant, can be listed as follows:
1.) The xylem transport is unidirectional whereas the phloem transport is bidirectional.

2.) Xylem are water conducting cells whereas phloem are food conducting cells.

3.) Xylem cells form xylem rings which can be used to determine the age of a tree, whereas phloem cells no such function.

4.) The xylem tissue includes tracheids and vessels, and xylem parenchyma whereas phloem tissue includes sieve tubes, companion cells, phloem parenchyma and phloem fibres.
