Secondary sex traits are qualities that arise in humans during puberty and in other animals during sexual maturity. These qualities are most noticeable in sexually dimorphic phenotypic traits that identify a species' sexes but, unlike the sex organs (primary sex characteristics), are not directly part of the reproductive system. Pubic hair, larger breasts, and expanded hips in females, and facial hair and Adam's apples in males, are observable secondary sex traits in humans.
