list 5 synthetic fibres and give one uses of each
Answers
Answer:
Rayon. a. Inthe medical field for making bandages and surgical dressings. b. In making bed sheets, curtains, blankets etc.
Fibres which are obtained by different chemical processes in the industries are known as human made or synthetic fibres. Synthetic fibres are prepared using raw materials of petroleum origin called petrochemicals. Rayon, nylon, terylene, etc are some human made or synthetic fibres.
Human made fibres are called synthetic fibres something fibres. Some synthetic fibres are rayon, polyester and acrylic fibre.
Rayon is a type of synthetic fibre which resembles like silk in appearance. The another name of rayon is artificial silk. It is cheaper than and can de dyed into different colours.
Uses of rayon are :
(1) Rayon is used in textile industry for making fabrics.
(2) Rayon is mixed with cotton to make bed sheets, dresses, caps etc.
Nylon is a polyamide fibre (polymer) prepared by the polymerization of large number of amide molecules (monomers)
Uses of nylon are :
(1) Nylon is used in production of textiles like sarees, shirts and other garments.
(2) Wool blended with nylon is used to mke socks, suits and carpets.
Polyester is a polymer made up of repeating units of chemical called an ester. (Esters are the chemicals which give fruity smell.)
Uses of polyester are :
(1) Polyester is used for making water hoses of fire fighting operations.
(2) Polyester is used for making conveyor belts.
Acrylic fibres is a synthetic fibre made from a polymer called polyacrylonitrile. Polyacrylonitrile is obtained the polymerization of large number of acrylonitrile molecules.
Uses of acrylic fibres are :
The wool obtained from natural sources is quite expensive whereas cloth made from acrylic fibre is related with cheap. Acrylic fibres are used for making jackets, sweater and blankets etc.
Spandex is a type of synthetic fibre which is known for its exceptional elasticity. It was invented in 1958 by chemist Joseph Shivers.
Uses of Spandex fibres are :
(1) It is light weight.
(2) It does not restrict movement.
(3) It is often used in athletic wear.
