Answer :-
The six main characteristics of sexual reproduction are as follows :-
- In sexual reproduction, two individuals of opposite gender are involved in the process.
- In sexual reproduction, the testes in males produce the male gametes (sperms) and the ovaries in females produce the female gametes (ova).
- The Gametes produced, are formed by meiosis (reduction division).
- The gametes involved in sexual reproduction, are haploid in nature.
- Sexual reproduction involves slow multiplication.
- In sexual reproduction, variations appear due to new combinations of genes during the process of cross over.
Some other characteristics of sexual reproduction are as follows :-
- In sexual reproduction, sperms are motile and they move towards the ovum for fertilising it.
- In sexual reproduction, sperms and ova on coming in contact with each other, fuse together to form a Zygote.
- In sexual reproduction, the daughter organisms / progeny differ genetically from the parent organisms.
