Occupations of people in vedic period (it is called vedic period because most of the vedas or hindu scriptures were written during this time which was from 1600 bc to 600 bc ) :

1) agriculture - due to a lot of land being free for cultivation , people from the vedic period started doing agriculture.

2) Animal rearing - domesticating animals became famous during this period when people started to tame and domesticate the once wild animals like pigs , oxens , bulls , dogs etc .

3) Scribes - As we all know that the vedic period was famous for the number of vedic texts it produced we should also know that only great writers can achieve such a quality of writing . So a lot of people in the vedic period believed in writing scriptures to make life easier for their forthcoming ancestors .

4) Weaving - As we know that making of silk too became famous during this period , making of clothes also automated became a prominent work done by many people . A lot of people depended on the clothes they made for their living .

5) Religious teacher - ( or priest ) being a religious teacher was also famous during that time. Anyone who have attained some kind of enlightenment or spiritual knowledge could share it with others .

Though many other professions also co existed with these ones , these were the occupations most people had during that time .
