• It occurs when subatomic particles like, electrons, protons etc., are accelerated by an electric field.

Three characteristics of electromagnetic radiation :

1. Wavelength : It is the minimum separation between two successive crests or troughs of a wave. It is denoted by λ. generally angstrom and nanometer are used to measure the wavelength of a wave.
2. frequency : It is the number of cycle per second of a wave. SI unit of frequency is cycle per second or Hz.
3. Amplitude : It is the distance from the wave to the maximum vertical displacement of a wave. Energy of a wave is directly proportional to the square of its amplitude. means, higher the amplitude, higher the energy of a wave will be.
