In 1793, Permanent Settlement Act was introduce by the Company. According to this ‘rajas’ and ‘taluqdars’ were called zamindars.

Zamindars collected rent from peasants and paid the company.

This motivated zamindars to increase their agriculture production as well pay the revenue to the company.

The revenue to pay the company was fixed and permanent. This motivated  zamindars to expand their agricultural production.
