1. It refers to the population which resides in the towns and cities and is densely populated.
It refers to a population that resides in the villages or rural places.
2. They have a well developed industrial, economical, infrastructural, residential system.
They offer poor economical or cultural centres, and so have way less people, who mainly practice agriculture.
3. They include a system of transportation, well developed schools and educational institutions and offers better jobs, business, hospitals, cultural centres, etc.
The newly developed towns of Bombay, Calcutta, Delhi and Madras had a taste of essentially European flavours with a sprinkling of Indian aroma. Thus the new towns had certain common features. • In addition to major urban design schemes, there came up many civil lines and the cantonments. The cantonments were British military settlements laid out wherever the British were placed in sizeable numbers. They served as barracks for the British officers. These settlements also had provisions to house the civilian population such as the families of the British officials, servant's quarters, schools, shops, parks and churches. They had excellent civic amenities like drainage, electricity and piped water.
