It is very difficult for anyone to identify a genuine note from a counterfeit one. So, one should keep in mind the following while checking 500 rupees & 2000 rupees note:---

1.     The notes have Mahatma Gandhi on their front. They also have a watermark of Mr. Gandhi on the left side, in the white space. One can observe it by tilting it against the light.

2.  One can find a green line running through the note in vertical direction, to the left of Mr. Gandhi’s picture. This line is called the “security thread,” and it will read “RBI”, Bharat (in Hindi) and 1000 (or 500). For this you have to hold the note against the light.

3.     The bank note’s value is hidden in two places. On the left side of both the 500- and 1000-rupee note, there is an outline of a flower. When you tilt the note, this flower depicts respective denomination.

4. On the back of every note, the denomination is spelled out on the left side in 15 different languages, including Oriya, Urdu, Nepali, and Sanskrit.

5. There is also a  large blank space on the left, where the denomination is written in vertical direction. This feature can be seen well under a magnifying glass

6. Optically Variable Ink:  The numeral 1000 and 500 on the obverse of Rs.1000 and Rs.500 notes respectively is printed in optically variable ink viz., a colour-shifting ink.

Hope it helps!!!
