•Have good public facilities like parks, hospitals, schools, etc.
•Have good transportation and developed roads and other kind of transportation things.(eg. Bridges, Highways, etc.)
•Have proper water supply and drainage system along with good electricity system.
The newly developed towns of Bombay, Calcutta, Delhi and Madras had a taste of essentially European flavours with a sprinkling of Indian aroma. Thus the new towns had certain common features. • In addition to major urban design schemes, there came up many civil lines and the cantonments. The cantonments were British military settlements laid out wherever the British were placed in sizeable numbers. They served as barracks for the British officers. These settlements also had provisions to house the civilian population such as the families of the British officials, servant's quarters, schools, shops, parks and churches. They had excellent civic amenities like drainage, electricity and piped water.
