1. Heavy rain fall causes flooding when the natural rivers or channels do not possess the capacity to contain excess water.
2. Cyclone and storm can cause water inundation to the coastal areas.
3. Tsunami or high tide causes sea water flood in to the coastal and neighborhood areas.
4. Snow-melt is overland flow of water produced from the melting snow. If the packed snow or ice on the ground melt due to warmer temperatures cause movement of the frozen ice and the flood in nearby localities, fields and bodies of water.
5. Dam failure or broken dam can flood water in to the fields and regions surrounding the dam. Massive inflow and non-stop rain fall for a prolonged period can cause dam failure which leads to sudden flooD
