Question:-

List four reason to support that water is a compound, not a mixture.

Explanation:-

Compound:- A compound is a pure substance made when two or more elements combine together in a fixed ratio by mass.

Ex:- Water, NaCl, etc.

Water is a compound not a mixture because it has following properties :-

  • Water is a pure substance made up of combination of two elements hydrogen and oxygen.

  • Water can not be broken down in to its constituents by any physical means or process.

  • Water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen combine together in a fixed ratio by mass 1 : 8.

  • Water has a fixed chemical formula. (H2O)Which represents it as 1 mole of water or, 1 molecule of water or, 18 g of water.

Water is a compound form when electric spark is passed through the hydrogen and oxygen.

They combine in the 1: 8 by mass or by atom.
