Figure of speech basically is a single word which describes a specific nature of a phrase or a word. It is a rhetorical device.

Figures of speech can be of many types.

They are as follows.

1.SIMILE

➡️It basically compares two entities or objects with the usage of words like 'as' or 'like'.

For example:- She is slow as a snail.

Here the girp has been compared with a snail.

2.METAPHOR

➡️It is too a comparision device but unlike simile it does not use words like 'as' or 'like'. There is an indirect comparision.

For example:- Barred face

Here the face of a goldfinch has been compared to bars.

3.PERSONIFICATION

➡️In this type of device nonliving objects are described as living beings or humans.

For example:- Silent Valley

4.SYNECDOCHE

➡️One word is used to describe a whole part.

For example:-' feet' of oxymandias

It does not only describe the feet but the whole of Ozymandias.
