ANSWER:

CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPOUND :

Compound is a pure substance which is composed of two or more elements , combined chemically in a fixed proportion by weight and can be broken into elements by chemical methods alone.

EXAMPLE :

Water , calcium carbonate

A compound is a homogeneous substance and the property through out the compound is same.

The physical and chemical properties of a compound are different from those of it's constituent elements.

EXAMPLE :

While hydrogen gas is combustible and oxygen is a supporter of combustion, their compound water isn't combustible or non combustible.

In the formation of compounds , generally energy in the form of heat , light and electricity is absorbed or evolved.

The elements of a given compound are always present in definite proportion by mass.

A compound cannot be separated by simple mechanical and physical processes.

It can be separated by using chemical or electro- chemical processes.
