The 3 common defects of the human eye are aas follows :-

• Myopia - This is a defect of vision due to which, a person becomes unable to see distant objects distinctly.

• Hypermetropia - This is a defect of vision due to which a person becomes unable to see nearby objects distinctly.

• *Presbyopia - This is a defect of vision in which a person suffers from both Myopia and Hypermetropia at a time.

• Myopia is also known as as "near-sightedness" or "short-sightedness".

• Hypermetropia is also known as "far-sightedness" or "long-sightedness".

• Myopia can be corrected by using a "Concave" lens of appropriate focal length.

• Hypermetropia can be corrected by using a "Convex" lens of appropriate focal length.

• *Presbyopia can be corrected by using bifocal lenses of appropriate focal lengths.

Presbyopia is generally caused due to the decrease in power of accommodation of the eye with age.
