- Deforestation.
- Burning of fossil fuels.
- Emission of harmful gases from vehicles.
- Release of toxic gases from industries.
- Open burning of garbage waste.
- Agricultural activities
Air pollution refers to the release of pollutants into the air—pollutants that are detrimental to human health and the planet as a whole.
- Deforestation: Deforestation is one of the major reasons which leads to deforestation. Deforestation is defined as a process of clearing and destroying forests on a large scale. Sometimes deforestation increases the risk of forest fires, also the cutting of trees, and forests for sake of urbanization (urbanization means the development of a town), which leads to air pollution. Deforestation disturbs the ecosystem. We know that trees take CO₂ from the atmosphere & give out Oxygen & as the number of trees decreases the CO₂ in the air increases .so deforestation(i.e. cutting of trees leads to air pollution).
- Burning of Fossils Fuels: Another major reason which contributes to the Air Pollution is the Burning of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are formed in the earth from the plants & animal remains, & when these fossil fuels (e.g. Coal, petroleum, oil)are burned, they release CO₂.CO₂ is one of the major contributor to global warming, which causes air pollution. Also along with CO₂, there is the release of harmful gases such as oxides of nitrogen & Sulphur. These gases may cause acid rain & respiratory problems.
- Emission of harmful gases from vehicles: The main greenhouse gas produced by vehicles is CO₂& methane. Air pollution from cars, trucks, and buses is split into primary and secondary pollution. Primary pollution is emitted directly into the atmosphere; secondary pollution results from chemical reactions between pollutants in the atmosphere. Fetuses, newborn children, and people with chronic illnesses are especially susceptible to the effects of air pollutants. Hence air pollution carries significant risks to human health & environment
- Release of toxic gases from industries: Rapid industrialization is posing a significant threat to clean air and a healthy lifestyle. Carbon monoxide is produced by a variety of industrial sources, including fuel-fired boilers, internal combustion gas boilers, and gas stoves. This emission of harmful gases(CO, CO₂, Methane, etc. )leads to global warming & also causes severe effects like heart disease, lung cancer, and inhalation problems on human health.
- Open burning of garbage waste: Burning trash openly can cause long-term health problems. Open burning means burning garbage in barrels, and furnaces which contributes to air pollution. The Presence of Nitrogen Oxide is Activated and Increased in the Air. This is a toxic compound that combines with other pollutants in the air to reduce the oxygen circulation of the air, which instantly impacts plant and tree life. Moreover, it is also a cause of global warming, given that it is very volatile in the atmosphere. This may cause headaches, nausea, or a risk of developing heart disease.
- Agricultural activities: Use of insecticides, pesticides and fertilizers in agricultural activities release harmful chemicals into the air pollution.
