Reaction of metals with Oxygen :-

Materials - a clean magnesium ribbon, pair of tongs.

Take a clean magnesium ribbon. Hold it with a pair of tongs and burn it over a flame. It burns with a dazzling white flame and forms white ash of magnesium oxide.

Magnesium + Oxygen = Magnesium oxide

Reaction/ to observe action of non-metal with Oxygen

Materials- sulphur powder, deflagrating spoon, a burner, glass.

Take some sulphur powder in a deflagrating spoon. Heat it over a burner. When the sulphur starts burning, put the spoon in a glass and cover it with a lid. [ Caution- do not expose yourself to the fumes, as they are toxic ]

Sulphur + Oxygen --> Sulphur dioxide.
