There are many ways. First, note the physical changes: effervescence, color change and precipitates formed. if there is effervescence, you can note the color and smell of the gas. If there is color change, it is because the atoms in the chemical bonds have been re-arranged to form new ones which blocked certain frequencies of light. If there is a precipitate,the a substance that id insoluble has been formed. you can also use a universal indicator or phenophthalein or methyl orange to show a difference in pH of the solution, maybe from acidic to basic or vice versa or to neutral. Changes in pH only occur if there has been a chemical reaction.
