Sexual reproduction involves production of zygote from two parents so there occurs variation.

While DNA copying minor errors are created in the DNA of the progeny during sexual reproduction.
Due to these minor changes in the DNA there are variations in the progeny.
These variations help an individual to adapt better to the surroundings.
They also sometimes give survival advantage to the variant individual during extremeties of nature like global warming , flood or the spread of a viral epidemic.
