Important features of dinoflagellates are as follows :-

1. Chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-b, chlorophyll-c, α, β and xanthophyll is present.

2. Two flagella are present in them and is known as armoured flagella.

3. Whirling whips like movement is seen.

4. Class of dinoflagellates is Dinophycaea.

5. Transverse groove is present which is known as annulus and the longitudinal grooves are known as sulcus.

6. Pectin plate is found in the structure which is known as theca or lorica.

7. There layers of chloroplast are found.

8. They are bioluminescent. Examples :- Noctiluca and Protoperidinium.
