Idea about Coming of Age: The two kids, Byron and Kenny, are shown to grow in their characters along the course of the book.
They are made to come in terms with reality and grasp ideas like death and loss.
Kenny, especialy grows up and accepts his role as an elder brother to Byron and thus, taking up the responsibility of protecting the latter from others.
I believe that this idea helps the reader understand why accepting responsibilities is vital for a person to grow up.
Idea about Family values: The Watsons always stick together through all the problems and happiness they encounter throughout the novel.
I felt this is important as it shows how much family matters in the face of adversity and adoration.
