Forest cover has to be increased to reverse the effect of past deforestation, and for this sustained efforts are made for afforestation and reforestation. Tree plantation movement in India or van mahotsava is being carried out in Ondia, since the 1950s whereby both of the agencies, government and private perform tree plantations during July and February of every year. It was initiated by K.M. Munshi.
Conservation of forests aims at the management of forests in such a way as to maintain them at optimum form and derive optimum top-notch self-assured sustainable benefit for present as well as for the future upcoming and forthcoming generations.
Two major strategies are adopted for the efficient conduction of the forests:
1) Protection or Conservation forestry:
A) Degraded forests are mended through sylviculture. The forests are allowed to recoup before allowing its first exploitation.
B) Certain forests are included under officiated sanctuaries and some national parks and are not allowed to be exploitied under no circumstances.
C) Well stocked plantations including the mature trees which have red coloured leaves or little absence of chlorophyll in total are exploitied scientifically.
2) Production or commercial Forestry: It is plantatation of useful trees and shrubs for meeting the commercial requirements without causing any undue damage tp the nature. It I said of three types- social forestry, agroforestry and production plantation, each are for social, economic and productive causes.
