A group of 572 islands created by an underwater mountain range are the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Indian plate clashed with the Burmese plate in the case of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Indian plate broke off from Gondwana around 100 million years ago and began to travel northward and met the Burmese plate as the subduction took place between the two plates and the islands began to rise.

At Saddle Peak, the islands have a maximum altitude of 730 meters and are mostly made up of sandstone, limestone and clay.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are one of the most sought after tourist destinations in India today considering the horrid image of the colonial period. The islands are famous for their serene, white beaches of sand and crystal-blue waters.
