Advantages  and Disadvantages of using lubricants

• Lubricant is a liquid which is used in machining operations to reduce the heat generated by friction.  There are different forms of lubricants such as water based and oil based and is selected and used based on the nature of application and various other technical factors such as compatibility with materials and corrosion property.

• Advantages: Reduce the heat produced, Reduce Friction, Increasing the efficiency of operations, Increased machinability of materials.  

• Disadvantages: Impurities getting clogged in between operation, Handling becomes difficult, material properties may change, could prove hazardous in some cases, inflammable if not handled properly.
