The Indian historians don't want to call the modern era as modern because the British treated India as its colony and took raw material from India to their country. So it can hardly be called modern since it was a colonization period.

=> Equality among people.
=> Economic growth and increasing prosperity.
Indian historians did not want to call the British rule in India a modern period because Indians at that time were not free. They were not considered equal by the British. The Indian economy was also very backward at that time.
