List the defining feature of the modern era. Why do Indian historians not want to call the British rule in India a modern period

siyara: The defining features of the modern era are urbanisation colonization scientific progress etc.
siyara: The Indian historians don't want to call the modern era as modern because the British treated India as its colony and took raw material from India to their country. So it can hardly be called modern since it was a colonization period.

Heyya!

The defining features of modern era are:-

=> Freedom of people from oppression and tyrany

=> Equality among people.

=> Economic growth and increasing prosperity.

Indian historians did not want to call the British rule in India a modern period because Indians at that time were not free. They were not considered equal by the British. The Indian economy was also very backward at that time.

Hope it helps!
