Modernity refers to a period where people break free from the clutches of medieval thinking and develop a questioning and reasoning ability. Where individualism is given priority. It is a period where sweeping changes come in the society. Modernity comes when there is technological development. Where every human is free and there is a state that constantly tries for the development of its citizens.

Now let's come back to the British rule. Was there any of the above mentioned points during the British rule? Tradition was given more priority than human life in the society. Sati, Purodah , Female Infanticide & Untouchable system still existed in the society. Indians were not treated par with the Britishers. The Britishers had monopoly over all the commercial and industrial activities of the country. Britishers treated us like slaves by imposing Rowlatt act on us. They made it clear many times that we are caged by imposing unequal laws on us.

Now you tell me... How can you call British rule a Modern period in any sense?
