The biggest difference is particle size. Of all types of soil, sand has the largest particle size, and clay has the smallest. ... To get soil with drainage that is somewhere in between, mixing clay with sand is not a great idea. Depending on the plant, but soil with medium particle size can hold water, but not too much.

Clay Soil -

1. It has smaller particles
2. It holds more amount of water
3. It is fertile soil
4. Less amount of air is trapped between its particles.
5. It's particles are tightly packed.

Sandy Soil -

1. It has much larger particles
2. It cannot hold water
3. It is not fertile
4. Air is trapped between its particles
5. It's particles are loosely packed.
