Both north and south Indian kingdoms were specific economic and social administration systems as required. The north Indian kingdoms were subject to attacks from external forces more than the south Indian kingdoms (where there were frequent wars among kingdoms in the South). This resulted greater plunder time and again and loot of wealth and bounty. The north Indian kingdoms like the Khaljis and Moghuls had established effective military and revenue systems like Mansabdari system of Akbar. In the south Indian kingdoms the Cholas had very well established revenue system called Ur and the Vijayanagar rulers followed Nayaka system in military administration.

In the social system, the two regions differed greatly and had developed corresponding social administration systems.
