Hazards in Mountain Area -

There is a growing scientific evidence that many mountains regions have become increasingly disaster-prone in recent decades and that a disproportionately high number of natural disasters occur in mountain area. Mountains are more frequently affected than other environments by destructive natural processes including earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, dam bursts or global lake outbursts. Moreover, other hazards such as avalanches and landslide occur almost very often in the mountain area.

Hazards in Coastal Areas -

Coastal hazards are caused by dynamic processes such as waves, tides, currents and rock weathering along the coast.
Coastal hazards include
#) Beach storm erosion (immediate erosion hazards)
#) Coastal recession (long term erosion hazards)
#) Coastal inundation - flooding caused by storm waves and storm surge.
# Dune instability and sand movement - when sand blows inland across private property and parkland.
#) Geotechnical hazard (such as rock fall)

Hazards in Plateau region -

Plateau regions have also become increasingly disaster-prone in recent years. Many geoscientists believe that occurrence of hazards such as landslide and earthquake have increased in the plateau region. Also earthquake and landslide cannot be prevented, only the disastrous effects of these, however, can be minimized considerably through scientific understanding of their nature, causes, frequency, magnitude etc. Other hazards in a plateau area may be drought, rock fall, floods etc.
