Calcium and Magnesium ions are responsible for making water alkaline.

During the process of making alkaline water, the calcium and magnesium ions are separated from carbonate ions which produce two streams of water known as the alkaline stream and the acidic stream.

The Ph level of alkaline water is higher than regular water.
