The main features of Permanent settlement system were :
1. The zamindars or landlords were made the owners of the land.
2. East India Company fixed land revenue with landlords and collected the same from them.
3. The landlords in turn were free to collect from peasants as much as they could.
4. The land revenue was fixed for 10 years.
5. It was introduced in Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, parts of U.P and North Carnatic.
The production of opium, indigo and sugar fetched huge profits for East India Company as the prices of these products was fixed by British planters which were very low.
