the water from a river is pumped by pumping station into a large reservoir called sedimentation tank!! during this time insoluble substances settle at the bottom
2. loading tank
from the sedimentation tank water is send to loading tank where alum is added and it deposits on the insoluble clay particles and being heavy they settle down at the bottom and in this way clay particles are removed!!
3. water is then passed to filtration tank. it has three layers. fine sand layer at the top . coarse and sand layer in the middle and gravel i.e tiny stones at the middle. the layers of sand and gravel act as filters! when water passes through them even small suspended particles get removed!!
4.chlorination tank
chlorine gas is added to make it germs free!!
5.high storage tanks
clean and disinfected water are send to high storage tanks and then finally sent to homes!!
