List the plant hormones and their functions in details.
Answers
Chemical coordination in plants occur with the help of hormones secreted in them. There are 4 plant hormones:
1- Auxin: detects light and helps in increasing the length of the plant. It's present in the shoots of the plants.
2- Gibberellins: helps in growth of stem and works in coordination with auxin.
3- Cytokinins: This is present in rapidly dividing cells. It helps in division of cell.
4- Abscisic acid: Controls the growth of plant by inhibiting/preventing it. Once the plant attains certain height it stops the growth of the plant. Wilting of leaves is one of its functions.
There are five major hormones which are auxin, cytokinin, gibberellin, abscisic acid, and ethylene. Each hormone differs in its effects. The auxins, gibberellins, and cytokinins act as growth stimulators, whereas, abscisic acid and ethylene act as growth inhibitors
