Sadly, the sparrow population has alarmingly dissappearing. As a result of a decline in size, the IUCN added in 2002, along with snow leopard, tiger and panda, a bird as frequent as sparrow, to its Red Data list of species at risk
Explanation:
There are several reasons for the disappearance of sparrows:
- Sparrows built their nest in roofs/holes of houses. However, in the present day old/traditional houses have been repalced by stylish houses thathave flat walls giving no room for sparrows to build nests and survive
- The packaged "food culture" & "supermarkets" such as food bazaar have outmoded the idea of grains being sold in open sacks in grocery stores . The main source of food from most sparrows is the "spilling of grains" from these open grain bags/ sacks .
- Scientists believe that mobile radiation is the main cause of sparrows disappearing. Birds navigate by "sensing" the magnetic fields of the world and mobile radiation disturbs and inhibits the ability of birds to fly ..
- Insects are part of the diet of baby sparrows and, because they are not able to feed their offspring through heavy use of mosquito repellents and insecticides. This has contributed to a reduction in the child mortality rate for sparrows.
- Big birds like pigeons, masses and so out-dating the "small bird population" have now filled the limited number of spaces or troughs for constructing nests; hence sparrows as such do not find place to build nests
