Combustion of fossils fuels releases gases like: Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Water vapour and also Carbon Monoxide.

Explanation:

  • Carbon dioxide, methane, water vapour are all green house gases.
  • They are capable of absorbing the heat energy from the sun.
  • When the above gases are released in excess in the atmosphere it can increase the temperature of the earth resulting in global warming and climate change.
  • Global warming causes:
  1. the death and extinction of temperature sensitive species,
  2. melting of the glaciers and polar ice caps, resulting in rise in water level.
  3. the rise in water level causes small islands which also harbours some species of plants and animals to get drowned.
