It is known that a plant shows positive phototropism. And so when it is exposed to unidirectional light, it obviously moves towards the direction of light and so the stems become weaker due to improper shape, and therefore the transportation of substances is restricted.
The hormone responsible for the bending of stem is known as auxin.
