Answer:

Wavewalker was badly damaged by the gigantic wave. The starboard side of the boat was bashed open; as a result the water was getting into it threateningly. The impact of the wave was so severe that nearly all the boat's main rib frames were smashed down to the keel.

Author’s first and foremost concern was to cover the hole through which water was flooding the boat. So he stretched canvas over the gaping holes using hammer and screws. He also used pumps to pump out the water from the boat. Larry Vigil and Herb Seigler did most of the pumping.

Answer:In order to check the flooding of the water in the ship, captain took following steps:

1. The captain stretched canvas and secured water proof hatch covers across the gaping hole.

2. Larry and Herb started pumping out water. When the two hand pump blocked and electric pumps short circuited, he found another electric pump in chartroom, he connected it to an outpipe and started it.
