ANSWER:

Many of the popular resistance movements had started when people felt that their rights were being snatched. That implies, all resistance movements were against some form of discrimination, mistreatment and exploitation

EXPLANATION:

When the British captured India and colonised the economy, they encountered solid resistance from the Indian people. There were numerous civil rebellions (movements), led by rulers who were overthrown by the British, displaced tribal and peasants, former officials of the captured Indian states, Poligars, and impoverished zamindars. These movements brought together individuals having different religious, class, ethnicity, and background, against the rule of the British.

The main causes of the popular resistance movements in India were against the British rule whose policies and practices had undermined the status, economic position, and rights of the Indians which symbolised exploitation. Intrusion in religious practices was another cause of these popular movements, especially these movements were anti-Christian. This was because of the socio-religious reforms presented by the British that were objectionable by the Indian people. In many other movements, difference between the ruler’s religion and exploited classes became the immediate reason for the movement.
