Arteries:

1)Arteries carry oxygenated blood, away from the heart except pulmonary artery
2)These are mostly deeply situated in the body
3)These are thick-walled, highly muscular except arteries of cranium and vertebral column
4)These posses narrow lumen

Veins:
1) Veins carry deoxygenated blood, towards the heart except pulmonary veins
2) These are superficial and deep in location
3)These are thin-walled
4)These posses wide lumen

The following are the differences..

1) Arteries carry oxygenated blood from heart to various other organs of our body but Veins carry deoxygenated blood from various organs of the body and bring it back to the heart.

2) Arteries have thick elastic walls because they need high pressure in order to pump blood from heart But Veins do not need thick walls because the blood is no longer under pressure instead they have valves which ensure that blood only flows in one direction.

3) There is an exception...Pulmonary arteries are the only arteries that pump deoxygenated bood to lungs and Pulmonary Veins are the only veins which carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to heart.
