Answer: ‘Change is constant’. Changes happen all around us, even within us.

Reversible Change

Reversible changes are changes that can be undone or reversed. Melting, freezing, boiling, evaporating, condensing, dissolving and also, changing the shape of a substance are examples of reversible changes. Reversible changes usually change the physical appearance of a substance. Therefore, reversible changes are also called physical changes.

Reversible changes that can be seen at home are :

Melting

Freezing

Boiling

Evaporation  (Boiling and evaporation are the two types of vaporization)

Condensation

Sublimation

Dissolving

Changing the shape of a substance

Making mixtures

Magnetism

Crystallization

Physical Change

Physical change is when matter changes forms but not chemical identity. Every physical change will not be reversible change. Physical changes can be undone, if energy is input. Changing the state of a pure substance between solid, liquid, and gas phases of matter are all physical changes since the identity of the matter does not change.

Physical change that can be seen at home are:

Crumpling a sheet of aluminum foil

Melting an ice cube

Breaking a bottle

Boiling or evaporating water Breaking a bottle

Shredding paper

Sublimation of dry ice into carbon dioxide vapor

Chemical change

A chemical change results from a chemical reaction.  The only way to reverse a chemical change is via another chemical reaction.

Chemical change that can be seen at home:

Souring milk

Mixing acid and base

Digesting food

Cooking an egg

Heating sugar to form caramel

Baking a cake

Rusting of iron

Burning of wood

Irreversible Change

A change which cannot happen backward, that is, it cannot be reversed is called an irreversible change.

Irreversible Change which can be seen

Burning of paper

A persons height

Cooking food

And all the chemical changes example that are given above are also irreversible change.
