The element silicon is used extensively as a semiconductor in solid-state devices in the computer and microelectronics industries. For this, hyperpuresilicon is needed. The silicon is selectively doped with tiny amounts of boron, gallium, phosphorus or arsenic to control its electrical properties.

Silicone is used to produce silicone rubber. Regular rubber has limitations related to chemical compatibility and loosing it’s desirable proprieties if uses outside of certain temperature ranges. Adding silicone to a rubber base makes a much more stable product that has a wide chemical compatibility and maintains it’s elastic and insulating properties without degrading across a wide range of temperatures.
