Answer- Let's know about non-metals first.

Non-metals are those elements which tend to gain electrons to attain stability i.e. they are electronegative.

Examples: Sulphur, Oxygen, Chlorine, Fluorine, Phosphorus, Carbon, etc.

There are about 17  non-metals found till now.

Uses of non-metals:

1. Oxygen is a non-metal which is essential for breathing.

2. Carbon is the most widely used non-metal which can be used as diamonds in jewellery, graphite for conduction of electricity, making of alcohols, acids, etc.

3. Chlorine is an important non-metal used to disinfect water and is available in the form of chlorine tablets.
