Important properties of non contact forces are:
- In some cases, like in Gravitational Force, the force doesn't depend on the material medium separating the masses.
- However in some cases as in electrostatic force, the force does depend upon the material medium separating the charges.
- Usually , non contact forces are experienced as a mutual action reaction force between two particles.
- The magnitude of the force also depends on the distance separating the particles.
- The direction of force vector always acts along the line joining the two particles.
- They are usually long range forces (Gravitational Force) , but may also be short range forces (Nuclear Force).
- They follow the INVERSE SQUARE RULE , the magnitude of the force is inversely proportional to the square of the separation distance of the particle.

Two important properties of non contact forces are:
- The non contact forces occur in pairs.
- The non contact forces in some cases do not depend on the medium separating the two bodies, that is they can even act in vacuum just like the gravitational forces, but it is always not true like the electromagnetic, electrochemical and the magnetic forces do depend on the medium separating the two bodies.
- They are the type of forces that occur on the pairs of bodies without their contact.
