Properties of clay minerals include plasticity, shrinkage under firing and air drying, fineness of grain, colour after firing, hardness, cohesion, and capacity of the surface to take decoration. On the basis of such qualities, clays are variously divided into classes or groups.

PROPERTIES OF CLAYEY SOIL

⬛PARTICLE SIZE:

Clayey soil has the smallest particle size of any soil Type.with Individuals Particle being so small that they only can be viewed by an electronic microscope.

⬜ STRUCTURE:

Because of the small particle size of clay soil the structure of the clayey-heavy soil tends to be very dence. The particles typically bond together, creating a mass of clay that can be hard for plant roots to penetrate. This density is responsible for clay-heavy soil being thicker and heavier than other soil types, and clay soil takes longer to warm up after periods of cold weather.
