List two reasons for carbon forming a large number of compounds.Name the type of bonding found in most of its compounds. Why does carbon form compounds mainly by this kind of bonding? Give reason why the carbon compounds- (1) generally have low melting and boiling points. (2) do not conduct electricity in molten state.

Heya here is your answer

_______________

Reasons :-

a) catenation: carbon       atoms form long   hydrocarbon chains

b) tetravalency: Carbon atoms have 4 valence electrons

ii) carbon atoms mainly form covalent bonds

Carbon atoms form such bonds in order for the atom to attain stability as it can neither lose or gain electrons

iii) Carbon compounds have strong bonds within the molecules but the intermolecular strength are very weak and thus they have low melting and boiling points

IV) Carbon doesn’t conduct electricity either in the solid liquid or molten star because it does not form free ions in order to conduct the electricity

Two reasons for carbon forming many compounds

Explanation:

  • Catenation and tetravalency are two reasons for C atom forming many compounds.
  • Catenation is the formation of long chain of  hydrocarbon chains by C atoms.
  • In tetra valency, The valence e− s on C atoms are four.
  • C atoms create these connections to achieve stability because they can't lose or gain e−s.
  • C compounds have strong intramolecular connections but weak intermolecular bonds, gives in low melting and boiling temp.
  • IT does not transmit electricity in solid liquids or molten state because it does not generate free ions.

hence, these are the reasons for carbon forming many compounds
