Answer:

Mendel tried an experiment using a pure tall and a pure short pea plant and by crossing them he saw that the plant which appeared in F1 generation were all tall plants .When F1 generation plants were self pollinated ,the progeny F2 was found to be not all tall but one fourth were short plants .This indicate that both tallness and shortness traits were inherited by the F1 generation plants but only tallness was exihibited in that generation .Short trait though present was exhibited only in the F2 generation plants .Therefore the trait of tallness that expressed itself in f1 generation is dominant character whereas the trait which did not expressed itself in f1 generation is recessive.
