Discrimination is where an individual is treated or considered differently to someone else due to their race, gender, age, disability, religion, & sexual orientation.

Explanation:

  • For example, where the same procedure, requirement or rule extends to each student, segregation exists in schools, but this results in inconvenient for the "safe" pupils. For instance, in the school uniform all male students need a hat. It does not exclude Sikh boys, who needs to wear a turban because of their faith. Although uniform code is applicable to all students, this is explicit discrimination connected to beliefs, something the school is unable to justify.
  • Another example is the overt exclusion against students regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender etc. Say, if children come from poor homes or households, their classmates are not well served and teachers who prefer wealthy students are prone to harm / bias. And, where students of girls are discouraged by teaching practitioners who believe that they are only made for boys (men) such as pilots, family businesses etc.
