Insect pests of stored grains:
- Insects are main enemy of the stored foods. They boreholes on the containers in which dry food and grains are stored and thereby eating them and spreading them all over the floor.
- According to some statistical studies, insects can destroy up to 50% of the gross production if serious care is not taken. The main insects are Lesser grain borer with scientific name "Rhyzopertha Dominica".
- It is mainly seen in Australia. Others are "Granary weevil (Sitophilus granarius)", "Rice weevil (Sitophilus oryzae), Angoumois grain moth (Sitotroga cerealella)", "Rust-red flour beetle (Tribolium castaneum), Confused flour beetle (Tribolium confusum)", "Saw-toothed grain beetle (Oryzaephilus surinamensis)", etc.
