listening and hearing what is the difference between these two words

well hi there even in our school the same chapter is going on .. so our teacher explained it something like this; 
hearing is simply the act of perceiving the sound by ear . it is involuntary and simply we can say its a natural ability of any living being  .. and listening is something we consciously choose to do its something we volunteer to do it needs concentration to listen..  
hearing is one of our senses while listening uses other senses too..
