What would happen if everyone dumped their garbage in front of their home everyday for a week? Would it stink? Would it attract insects? Would it attract rodents? Would it attract other animals? Would it look nice? Would your personal business be out in the street for everyone who wanted to see could look at it? Would it prevent people from walking or riding their bikes? Would it stop cars and busses from going through? How about ambulances and fire trucks? What would happen when it rained or the snow melted? Would children be able to play by it?

If you have done any of those things then you are guilty of littering. You are throwing garbage in front of someone's home. You are contributing to the insect population most notably flies who do not stay only on the garbage. You are helping the population of rats, mice, and other scavengers by feeding them garbage. You are making the land ugly with the eyesore of your litter. You are poisoning the land and the water for chemicals leech out of your litter.

It is said you will reap what you sow. If you are throwing out garbage into the world without thought of where it is landing, then eventually that garbage, or litter, will come back to you in the form of contaminated food and water.

Not littering is not just disposing of your garbage properly. In the long run it's insuring your own survival and that of your children.

Would YOU throw your garbage outside of your home? If you answered no, have you ever thrown a tissue out of a car window? A fast food wrapper? A soda can? Have you ever cleaned your car out in the parking lot of a store while you were waiting for someone in the store and just left the garbage in the parking lot? Have you ever seen someone throw a dirty diaper out of their car window?
